eteleon has chosen Comdasys FMC Solution for the Deployment of its wiFon Services
eteleon and Comdasys to cooperate in deployment of Fixed-Mobile Convergence services offering in Germany
Chicago, September 05, 2007
Comdasys, a leading supplier of FMC solutions for enterprises and service providers, today announced that its FMC solution has been chosen by eteleon e-solutions AG from Munich for the deployment of services that provide a WiFi mobile extension to DSL services.

The wiFon offering is a combination of fix line and mobile telephony that leverages on the advantages of both networks. With a dual-mode mobile phone, eteleon’s customers can make and receive calls from any accessible WLAN at VoIP prices. eteleon’s customers can be reached on a local PSTN number which works also in the GSM and WiFi networks. „We have chosen Comdasys’ FMC solution because we wanted to translate mobility to how people can best use it. With the Comdasys FMC Solution we can offer to our customers a solution that can be used at home, at the office as well as on the road and that helps them reducing overall communications cost while at the same time increasing reachability”, said Staffan Schilke, CFO of eteleon.

“The cooperation with eteleon provides Comdasys with a unique opportunity to penetrate the FMC service provider market as a first entrant“, said Marco Genoni of Stratatech Group. “The Comdasys FMC solution has proven to meet the stringent requirements of a service provider such as eteleon who in Germany is known for successfully deploying new solutions offerings”, Genoni added.

The Comdasys FMC Solutions consists of the Comdasys FMC Server and of the FMC Client. Together they provide the user with all the advantages of FMC solutions like extending telephony features of PBXs and Softswitches to the dual-mode device, providing lowest cost routing, assuring seamless call handover from GSM/CDMA/UMTS to WiFi networks, permitting one number and one voice mailbox solutions and more. The Comdasys FMC Server is an all-in-one network appliance and includes a Multiservice Router, a Session Border Controller with security enhancements, QoS and FMC voice applications. The FMC Server is deployed at the central site of an enterprise or a service provider and is located on the wired network between the WLAN and the SIP switch. The Comdasys FMC Server controls the mobile user sessions regardless of whether they are on the enterprise, home, hotspots or cellular network. The FMC Client is a software module that is integrated into dual-mode devices and works with the Comdasys FMC Server to provide users access to all available FMC features and services.

Whenever the user enters into a known WiFi network, the FMC Server discovers the FMC Client on the IP network and assures that all call made or call received by the user are directed over WLAN. If during a call the user walks out of the WiFi network towards a cellular network, the FMC Client provides the FMC Server with the appropriate information. The FMC Server sets then up a GSM connection and once the user is also connected over the GSM network, the FMC Server closes the WiFi connection. Audio-mixing in the dual mode phone and a precise management of the communication by the FMC Server provide for a seamless handover. Similarly, the FMC Server and the FMC Client work together to assure a transition of a communication from the GSM into the WiFi network.

The Comdasys FMC Solution scales from 50 to 1500 users, is interoperable with third party SIP PBX and Softswitches, allows flexible deployments options in central and branch sites and can be deployed by service providers as managed service.

The FMC Server provides the administrator of an enterprise network or service provider the ability to provide PBX or telephony functionalities or other features to the user. Thus, enterprises can manage communications cost of mobile users and service provider can offer lower cost VoIP communications to their customers.
