Comdasys extends its Fixed Mobile Convergence Solution to include 3G UMTS and GPRS Networks
Boston and Munich, October 31, 2007
Comdasys, a leading and trusted supplier of Fixed to Mobile Convergence (FMC) solutions for enterprises and service providers, today announced that it has extended its FMC solution to include UMTS and packed switched GPRS networks.

With the extension to 3G UMTS and GPRS, users of the Comdasys FMC solution can now use features such as Presence and Instant Messaging even when they are not in range of a WLAN Hotspot. “By integrating cutting edge features such as Instant Messaging and Presence and by expanding the usability of our FMC Solution through UMTS and GPRS we further underline our strategy that is very much about increasing availability and usability” said Martin Bitzinger, CTO of Comdasys. “End users will be able to place and receive calls and/or essages, whether they are in range of a GSM, GRSP or 3G UMTS or WiFi network. Instant messaging and presence are playing an increasingly important role in helping mobile workers be more available, responsive, and productive” added Mr. Bitzinger.

“The Comdasys FMC solution now addresses the global business communication needs even more comprehensively. These are about increasing employee’s mobility, accessibility and productivity by enabling them to use just one handset for all communication needs. This handset works on almost all available mobile and wireless networks while at the same time reducing the overall cost of communication”, said Marco Genoni, of Stratatech Group.

The Comdasys FMC solution offers many key benefits such as:

The Comdasys FMC Solutions consists of the Comdasys FMC Server and of the FMC Client. Together they provide the user with all the advantages of FMC solutions like extending telephony features of PBXs and Softswitches to the dual-mode device, providing lowest cost routing, assuring seamless call handover from GSM/CDMA/UMTS/ GPRS to WiFi networks and vice versa, enabling a true single number solution and more. The Comdasys FMC Server is an all-in-one network appliance and includes a Session Border Controller with security enhancements, QoS and the FMC PBX interworking. The FMC Server is deployed in an enterprise or a service provider scenario and is located on the wired network between the WLAN network and the SIP switch. The Comdasys FMC Server controls the mobile user sessions regardless of whether they are on the enterprise, home, hotspot or cellular network. The FMC Client is a software module that is integrated into dual-mode devices and works with the Comdasys FMC Server to provide users access to all available FMC features and services. It is available for Windows Mobile and Symbian based phones. In addition to that, the FMC Server can also work with IMS enabled phones out of the box.

Whenever the user enters into a known WiFi network, the FMC Server discovers the FMC Client on the IP network and assures that all call made or call received by the user are directed over WLAN. If during a call the user walks out of the WiFi range, the FMC Server will seamlessly hand over this call to the cellular network. Several optimizations have been made to make the handover really smooth and unnoticeable to the user. Similarly, the FMC Server and the FMC Client work together to assure a transition of a communication from the GSM/CDMA/UMTS/GPRS into the WiFi network.

The Comdasys FMC Solution scales from 50 to 1500 users, is interoperable with third party SIP PBX and Softswitches, allows flexible deployments options in central and branch sites and can be deployed by service providers as a managed service.
